“Blindspotting” - A genuine lens on gentrification
Gentrification is an issue that plagues most major cities in America but is happening at an expedited rate in Oakland. Daveed Diggs’ and Rafael Casal’s new film “Blindspotting” shines a bright light on the challenges facing those who are being threatened with displacement as they watch the neighborhood that they grew up in disappear. Even through the highly emotional and tense moments in the film, the two are able to keep it light with playful humor, sincerity and strong camaraderie reminding us that a sense of community is the heart of any town.
